3rd in Sportscar debut

Anthony Dunn from Syresham, Northants & James Pickford from Cheshire took third place in the opening round of the British Radical Enduro Championship at Oulton Park, Cheshire. It was their first sportscar race in a brand new car that had only been picked up from the factory on Thursday.

Single seater ace Pickford was draughted in at the last minute after team owner / driver Matthew van Gessel decided to make his debut at a later event given the nature of the Oulton Park track. Because of the limited time available, each had only 1 half hour practice session to learn the car before qualifying

Despite this, they immediately set competitive times and qualified 3rd on a dry track. For the race the heavens opened, leaving a treacherous track for the rolling start.

Dunn was baulked at the start & forced to drop back to fourth, but soon closed on and passed 3rd place driver James Aspinal.

He pitted early under the safety car for fuel, tyres & driver change to Pickford. Although race leader Robin Liddell was in a class of his own at the wet start, as the track dried Pickford closed the gap, but the race was red flagged after a car spun into a gravel trap.

"It's a pity about the red flag because James was just behind the 2nd place guy" said Dunn after the race "although to get third place when everything is new is a good result".
